Start with the posts, not the panels

Storm damage almost always shows up at the post line first. Even if the panels look straight, a post that's shifted, cracked at the base, or pulled loose from its footing means the fence's structural support is compromised — and that's a repair issue no matter how good the panels look.

How much of the fence is affected

One or two damaged posts with the rest of the run intact usually points to a targeted repair. Damage spread across a long run — multiple leaning posts, several cracked panels, a section that's fully down — usually means that section needs to come out and be rebuilt rather than patched piece by piece.

Hidden damage that shows up later

Wind can loosen a post's grip in the ground without knocking it over outright. A post that seems solid right after a storm can work its way looser over the following weeks as soil settles. This is why we check posts by hand — not just by eye — before calling a section sound.
